Adidas has teamed up with Parley to create a truly innovative sneaker concept. Their idea was to 3D print a sneaker’s midsole using plastic salvaged from the ocean.
The design’s goal was to demonstrate how with innovation you can help rid the ocean from pollution all while creating an incredible sneaker.
The 3D printed Futurecraft Sneaker consists of an upper made with ocean plastic content, and a midsole which is 3D printed using recycled polyester and gill net content. Since Adidas is not just looking to save the environment in their latest sneaker endeavor, the brand is also going to phase out the use of plastic bags in its retail stores by 2016.
Although, there is still no word on whether or not these sneakers will make it to store shelves, we can still appreciate the incredible lengths Adidas and Parley have gone through to show us what is possible using the latest sneaker technology. [Learn more]
