The majority of billboard signs plastered on the walls and pillars of railway and subway stations go unnoticed. They are lost in the minds of the people waiting on the platforms as just visual noise. Swedish Ad agency Akestam Holst created a stir of interest with one of their most recent railway station campaigns. They installed a video billboard with built-in motion sensors that detected when trains arrived and departed the station. The gorgeous model’s hair blows wildly in the wind as the trains swoops into the station. The perfect timing of the hair blowing just as the wind hit boarding passengers shocked observers who quickly moved closer to the sign for a better look. The playful attitude of the model draws interest even further.
The idea of tying real-life activity to bring the billboard to life is innovative thinking which may be showing us the direction of advertising’s future.
