Architectural firm Design Develop in Slovakia has launched Project Gregory to turn billboard advertising signs into homes for the homeless. Along the highways, dual sided billboard signs have a large triangular space in between the two faces. Project Gregory takes these open spaces and builds a simple two room home in that triangular space. Electricity is already in place, eliminating the need for running additional electrical lines. Cost of construction can be offset with advertising costs.
The homes feature one room that includes the entrance way, a small kitchen, a small desk, and a bed with storage space underneath. The second room is the bathroom. The interior of the home is reached by climbing a ladder from ground level to the apartment area between the two sign faces. You can learn more about the Project Gregory on their website.
