In search of new ways to prevent unwanted casualties on the battlefield and do proper recon, the US Special Forces are testing a tiny, bug-like drone that could change the way the military approaches an unknown battlefield.
The PD-100 Black Hornet 2, to us, a drone, weighs only 18 grams and features a camera an onboard camera that allows users to scope a desired target safely. The drone can fly up to 25 minutes with a range of about 2 miles and features as well, a thermal camera.
This latest invention has been designed by the Norwegian company Prox Dynamics, that is originally funded by the founder of the better know, Blade Runner indoor toy helicopter. The stealth device is also packed with GPS technology allowing it to autonomously fly with its GPS autopilot system to a desired coordinate.
Though we wish we could get our hands on one ourselves, the sticker price for one of these hornets is around $40,000. Though this drone may have many uses, we hope that its end goal would be to save many valuable lives on and off the battlefield.
