Installation artist Danae Stratou had a vision of incredible scale in 1995, forming a team of artists, installers, and workers to build one of the most amazing pieces of land art ever built. They spent the next two years working in the desert moving over 8,000 square meters of sand, over 12,000 tons of sand, to complete the installation. The conic shapes and spiraling pattern are so enormous, that you can easily see the installation on Google Earth from their orbiting satellites.
These photographs show the beauty of the installation shortly after it was completed, but amazingly, the piece is still magnificent. You can see current images on Google Earth of how it has changed over the years. The commitment and efforts of Danae Stratou and D.A.S.T. Arteam should never be forgotten.
