Bompas & Parr are an amazing duo of scientific culinary artists, but this project goes to uncharted territories. The Gherkin Pickle Chandelier is a massive piece built from heavy metal bands, chains, and industrial grade wiring. All of this heavy duty construction is required to power this amazing chandelier. Bompas and Parr replaced light bulbs with gherkin pickles, the world’s finest culinary light bulb. The pickles light-up due to their high salt and vinegar content, but there is an enormous cost. To light the chandelier requires enough electricity to power two city blocks of homes, or the equivalent voltage of frying two people in electric chairs.
This is not a culinary experiment that any of us should attempt at home due to the high voltage requirements, but it is incredible to see the pickles sizzle into glowing life. Anyone ready for a lightly toasted gherkin light bulb?
