How can a furniture and home accessory store leverage Halloween? Ikea Singapore turned to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining for inspiration for their Halloween campaign. The scene starts with the classic shot from the movie with the young boy riding his Big Wheel trike, but this time he is racing through the aisles of Ikea wandering past skeletons sitting down for a meal, and other horrifying events in each department. Eventually, the boy runs into his worst nightmare, the two mysterious girls from the Shining asking him to come out and play. Or is that what they say?
The shot fades away showing the two girls are really his parents saying “Come on, let’s go pay” but of course in a Singapore accent that sounds much more like go play.
