Wiel Arets Architects faced a challenge when the owners of a beautiful piece of property near the Mediterranean called upon them. The surrounding homes obscured the beach from view, causing Wiel Arets to come up with a clever design to raise the pool high enough to see the beach. They chose to cantilever the pool from the roof of the house allowing the owners to have a view of the beach while they swim of sunbathe. On the interior, they created dual paths between the lower level and the top pool level. The first path was the “quick path” that gave fast direct access to the pool. The second path moved slowly through the rest of the home before ending on the roof. One of the most stunning features of the cantilevered pool is the glass bottom that allows you to see swimmers going past from below.
The architects added features to the home to ensure beach walkers and swimmers returning from the ocean did not bring sand into the home.
