Beautiful surroundings often tempt architects to build higher to provide greater viewpoints for residents of the home, but at the Okura House in Auckland, Newland, Bossley Architects chose a very different direction. The Okura House is depressed a full 3 meters into the hillside to reduce the impact on the view from the surrounding area. The home’s low profile is deceptive, hiding the fact this is a large home filled with fascinating features and comfort. The home has two separate buildings that are integrated together with the use of screens and a lightweight roof.
Highlights of the home include the swimming pool, large covered patios, and dramatic lines. The home flows with the environment providing the home owners with magnificent views without obstructing the views of others.
