We knew it had to be coming. Every social media platform eventually has to bite the bullet and do it. Snapchat announced on Friday, October 17th that advertising was coming to Snapchat soon stating the obvious, “We need to make money.” The first add hit Snapchat users screens on the 18th announcing Universal’s upcoming Ouija movie. Universal is seeking to be the first company to grab onto Snapchat’s fan base to create a social media buzz that drives us into the movie theater seats. In true Snapchat fashion, the advertisement was a 20 second trailer packed with excitment, at least we always hope our Snapchat moments are exciting.
The ad was very unobtrusive and can easily be whisked away with a simple tap of your finger. Whether you like advertising or not, this is a great sign that Snapchat is maturing as a business and will be around for years to come.
