A studio apartment in major cities in the USA can be very small. A few hundred square feet for your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. A tiny apartment in Hong Kong make those studio apartments look like mansions. The underprivileged people of Hong Kong, one of China’s richest cities, live in apartments that are as small as the kitchen in a standard studio apartment. These tiny rooms are used as a combination bedroom, kitchen, living room, and storage for all of your belongings. Bathrooms are down the hall, a shared commodity. These tiny living spaces are homes to senior citizens, poor, and even young couples just getting started.
Hong Kong faces the same challenges as many metro areas, overcrowding, lack of housing, and lack of resources. Hong Kong’s extreme population density would be impossible without these tiny apartments, but it is not a living space we would choose for ourselves.
