It is hard to imagine what went through the minds of the architects from Wiels Arets Architects when they did their first site visit to build a home for a car collector. The location for the home was a gap between two ancient buildings on a street in the medieval parts of Maastricht. Of course, the collector had no desire to have an old-style home, he sought a home as fascinating as his collection of Aston Martins. The architects created a home that followed the city guidelines of flowing between surrounding buildings by using a cut in the building which doubled as a way to bring more natural sunlight into the home. The house was designed in a very modern fashion with a shining glass exterior, a covered car storage area for the car collection, and over 500 square meters of living space.
The amazing building is a stark contrast to other buildings on the street, but does not distract from their elegance. As you can see in the photographs, the building is a blend of storage, elegant living, and a viewing point to see the beauty of Maastricht.
